Where is the Turbotax Refund Bonus Offer for 2017? (Amazon Gift Card)

Turbotax Amazon Gift Card Refund Offer

Updated January 24th, 2017:  For the second year in a row, TurboTax is no longer offering their bonus refund offer with Amazon or any other any other store here in 2017. Although their are other pretty good TurboTax deals this season, the bonus offers was a pretty sweet offer because you could earn an extra 10% on top of the tax refund coming your way if you filed with TurboTax and opted to receive your refund on a pre-paid Amazon gift card. Rumor has it that due to the popularity of the program, it was was simply too expensive to keep going.

Fortunately, if you’re willing to switch to H&R Block’s tax software, and if you get it from Amazon, then you can still still take advantage of the offer. It’s only available on marked boxes purchased from amazon.com (unlike last year, there is no mention of it on their official site, hrblock.com).

Updated February 11th, 2016:  For anyone looking for the Turbotax-Amazon refund offer for 2016, we’re sad to say that it’s not being offered this year. For the last several years you could elect to have part or all of your tax refund sent to you in the form of an Amazon gift card, and if you would do so, you could earn an extra 10% on top of your refund. We’ve included the details from last year below for your reference.

But all is not lost – H&R Block is now offering a nearly identical 10% refund offer for 2016!  If you’re set on TurboTax through, there are a number of pretty good discounts out there on Turbotax that you can take advantage of, including several bundle deals. Be sure to see our main TurboTax deals page for the complete list (offers updated daily).

Updated March 6th, 2015 – Our favorite deal from TurboTax is back again for 2015 and rivals the 10% gift card refund offer that’s available for H&R Block tax software this year as well.  If you’re expecting a tax refund this year and you’re planning on using TurboTax to complete your 2014 tax return, then you can get up to an extra 10% on top of the refund coming to you. TurboTax and Amazon have teamed up to give you up to 110% of the refund coming to you if you elect to receive some or all of you refund in the form of an Amazon gift card. So for example, if you are expecting to receive a $3,000 federal tax refund this year then you will get $3,300 ($300 bucks more) if you decide to get the entire amount on an Amazon gift card.

How It Works

After you complete your tax return using one of the qualified TurboTax products but right before you click “send your returns” in the File section of TurboTax, you will be given the option of choosing all of part of your refund in an Amazon.com gift card. You can choose any increments of $100 to up to the amount of your refund or $10,000 (whichever is less). Then TurboTax will give you an extra 5% or 10% on your gift card depending on the version that you’re using. The remaining amount of your refund will be deposited to your bank account that was provided when you completed your tax return.

When will I receive my Amazon e-gift card?

You will receive your Amazon e-Gift card claim code by email about two business days after your federal refund is available from the IRS.  For some people this happens quickly, for others it may take a few weeks.  On average, it takes the IRS 21 calendar days to process your Federal tax refund. You can always check the status after you file your tax return and find out if your federal tax refund has been processed or not by going to the Where’s My Refund page at irs.gov.

Which products will qualify and how much will I get?

The percentage of the bonus that you can get will vary depending on the TurboTax Desktop or Online version that you purchase. Not all of TurboTax products will give you the same percentage discount so we’ve broken down the details below.

TurboTax Federal Free Edition with the TurboTax PLUS add-on (2014 tax year):

  • Extra 5% added to your gift card if completed at the TurboTax Store.

TurboTax Basic (2014 tax year) Desktop version:

TurboTax Deluxe (2014 tax year) Desktop version:

TurboTax Premier (2014 tax year) Desktop version:

Turbotax Home & Business (2014 tax year) Desktop version:

TurboTax Deluxe, Premier or Home & Business (2014 tax year) Online Versions:

  • Extra 5% added to your gift card if purchased from the TurboTax Store.

Do I have to use my entire refund to purchase a gift card?

No! You can choose any increments of $100.00 for your gift card. Just note that only federal refunds will qualify (any State refunds owed to you will not qualify for this offer).  And it goes without saying, you don’t need to spend the entire amount on a single purchase/transaction… you can use it as you go only when you need to shop at Amazon.

I just spent one hour on the phone with an Intuit guy, to find out that they never processed the gift card and gave me back the full refund. I had asked that 4300 of the refund be put on the card. This cheated me out of $30, not a huge amount, but it’s the principle of the thing. Intuit blamed it on the IRS, but is unwilling to do ANYTHING to fix the problem Thieves, I guess. I am about to terminate a 25-year relationship with Intuit, all because they can’t be accountable for ANYTHING. Liars.

I Used the Amazon Turbo-Tax refund for the past 2 years without any problems. I Loved getting an extra 10% back. And yes, we made a deliberate decision to spend all the money on Amazon – which was not a hardship at all. We use it a lot anyway. I am sorry some folks had an issue, but I really don’t see how folks lost money on the deal. I’ve heard that some of the problems arose from the email that provided the Amazon Gift Card number did not come from Amazon or Turbo-Tax. But I I remember correctly, that was spelled out in the details and fine print. I am so disappointed that it is not being offered again for the 2015-16 tax season.

They took about $4000 dollars from me last year and gave me $4000 amazon gift card … useless people … I wonder how they get to sleep at night.

Yikes! Even for big Amazon spenders, that’s a big gift card.

I wonder if it was the complaints or the costs associated with the offer that caused TurboTax to not bring back the deal for 2016. But you’re not the first one to complain about it… so it’s likely that’s it.

If you cant spend $1,100 on amazon happily your standards for merchandise is way too high. Secondly ladies… Theres no ‘glitch’ in the system. I have used this program the last 2 years, I was always annoyed by the numerous times I had to agree to the programs conditions and the number of times I had to click ok to accept and the times it showed how much money I decided to put on a gift card. Its completely obvious you cant do it by ‘accident.’

I will NEVER use TurboTax again. I’m not sure if there’s a glitch in their system, but thanks to them, I am now receiving $1100 of my refund money on a Amazon card. I have never shopped at Amazon, and never chose this option. I am a single mother, and need all the money I can to dig myself out of debt. Now have $1100 going to something I’ll never use!
