New Features in Adobe Photoshop Elements 13

adobe photoshop elements 13 review

September 24th, 2014 – It’s that time of year again when Adobe updates their best selling photo and video editing software – Today we welcome Photoshop Elements 13. This year’s update is more significant that last year’s as Elements 13 as it now has 64-bit Windows and Mac, high DPI support, full Retina display support (Mac), and 16-bit color support. So now if you have a big library you shouldn’t get slowed down when opening lots of photos at once and you’ll be able to view your photos the way they were meant to be seen. Several nice new features are also added like Photomerge Compose where you can easily select an object in one photo, like a person or a tree, and merge it into another photo. The just click auto blend to automatically adjust to color and lighting blend for the pasted object to look more like it was always meant to be there. You also get new cropping capabilities, new Selections, new Elements Live, new Facebook cover and profile effects templates, enhanced mobile syncing, and some more enhancements which we’ll cover below.

Pricing stays the same this year at $99.99 for the individual app and $149.99 for the bundle. It continues to be sold as a perpetual license (i.e. buy it once and use it as long as you want) unlike Photoshop CC which is only available as a monthly subscription. However, you can often find both Photoshop Elements 13 and the Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 13 bundle on sale  (here’s are all of the latest Elements 13 coupons and discounts).

Even though Elements is scaled down version of Photoshop CC, don’t let it fool you – It’s a resource intensive program that needs a good computer to go along with it. To take full advantage of Elements, be sure you have the following:

  • Windows:
    • 1.6GHz or faster processor with SSE2.
    • Windows 7 or Windows 8 (ideally a 64-bit system).
    • 2GB or more RAM and 4GB or more of available hard-disk space.
    • A good screen resolution (1024×768 or better).
    • QuickTime 7 software.
    • Microsoft DirectX 9 or 10 compatible display driver.
  • Mac:
    • 64 bit multi-core Intel processor
Mac OS X Mavericks v10.8 (or higher) or OS X Yosemite.
    • 2GB or more RAM and 4GB or more of available hard-disk space.
    • 1024×768 or better (retina display).
    • QuickTime 7 software.

New Features & Enhancements

As we mentioned, then 64-bit support is by itself a compelling reason to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 13, especially if you’re running an older version of Elements from a few years ago. But there are a number of other improvements as well. Here’s a look at some of the most important changes in this release.

  • New Photomerge Compose – This has to be our favorite new feature. The new Photomerge Compose tool lets you easily select and copy an object or objects and paste it into another photo. Then it’ll auto adjust the color, tones and lighting of what you pasted to match the lighting of new photo so it looks like it’s always been there.

You can either choose a pre-defined color or custom select a color that’s found in your image.

Can’t get Camera RAW to work. Downloaded and installed 9.5 to work with my Canon 80D, but does not open files and can’t even find the app or an icon after installation.
