Updated March 20, 2015: Tax season is here once again in Canada and as we do every year at this time, we’re tracking all deals available to help you save on your tax software purchase.
In year’s past, one of the more popular offeres was the National Bank of Canada TurboTax discount for NBC customers and employees. It was a pretty good deal because it would save you 20% on Standard, Premier or Home & Business versions (the three best selling options). And unlike other customer discounts, it didn’t matter what level of customer you were or how much money you had in the bank – Everyone qualified.
Well, unfortunately for 2015, the partnership was not renewed and this discount is no longer being offered (although we hope that we’ll see it again in 2016). However, several other partnerships have taken its place as well as a few pretty good general promotions so let’s take a look at the current options.
So what are my options now?
Even though the the National Bank of Canada offer is not available this year, there are still a number of other discounts that you can take advantage of. We’ve grouped the options together to make it easier to find the best price point possible – Here are your choices:
- General discounts: You can sell all of the available coupon codes and discounts by product by visiting our individual product pages for Standard, Premier, Home & Business, and TurboTax 20. If you’re not sure which version to choose, then you can choose the Standard version and start your return for free; if you’ll need to upgrade, the software will automatically guide you to best version for your specific tax situation.
- Partner offers: The NBC deal is gone but a few other exclusive partnerships have come for 2015. If you’re also a customer of BMO Bank of Montreal, Scotiabank or TD Canada Trust customer, then you’ll be entitled to 20% off your TurboTax.ca order. Smaller banks may also provide certain savings for their customers so be sure to check with your local branch to see the options available to you.
- Free offer for Students: If you were is school for part or all of 2014 then you might be able to use the TurboTax Student Edition for free this year. If you think you may qualify, then we recommend that you read up a bit more to see if you’re able to file for free. And just because it doesn’t cost you anything, that doesn’t mean that you aren’t getting all of the good stuff from TurboTax including calculating deductions tuition, school related expenses, and everything else to help you get the maximum tax possible.
What other tax programs are available this year?
There are several other alternatives to TurboTax in Canada with the most popular ones being UFile and H&R Block. The great thing about most of these tax preparation programs is that most of them let you start working on your tax return for free. So you’ll be able to see exactly how the interface looks like and even be able to have a look at what your tax refund may be (it’s great to try out a few programs to see if your refund will be the same in each one).
If you’re stuck and not sure which program to use, then let just ask your questions in the comments section below and we’ll try our best to help!
