Updated December 30th, 2016: TurboTax’s referral program has once again returned for 2017! If you have some friends that are planning on using TurboTax for the first time this year or maybe know someone who’s considering switching to TurboTax from another tax software program or service (like H&R Block), then it’s the perfect time to earn your referral bonus credits and you’re friends will get a discount too. Who knows, you might also be able to make a few bucks from your Facebook or Twitter posts. Every time a qualifying new user completes their tax return using your referral link then you’ll get $10.00 worth in Amazon gift cards up to $200.00 ($200.00 = 20 friends). Every friend you refer will also receive a 20% off discount code to use on their TurboTax purchase.
How does the offer work?
To invite your friends, just head on over to the referral page at the TurboTax website to create your referral links. Once there, you’ll need to enter the email addresses of the friends that you want to refer along with your contact email address. You can also refer friends using the Facebook or Twitter links. Your friends will then receive an email with discount and offer details. After they signup and complete their tax return, you’ll receive an email with your e-gift certificate (the terms and conditions say up to 45 days after the tax form is filed to get your gift certificate but we suspect that it comes in a lot quicker than that).
Remember, your referral can’t be anyone that has ever used TurboTax Online before – They have to be new customers in order to qualify. Plus, because all the referrals are tracked using your specific referral link, they have to use the link that’s provided in the email for you to earn credit for the referral. You can earn referrals through the program on any valid TurboTax Online Basic, Deluxe, Premier and Home & Business orders your friends make.
Can I refer myself?
Well, we read the complete terms and conditions and couldn’t find any restrictions that you couldn’t refer yourself. However, you’ll need to use separate email addresses for the referral to work – And the one you use as your “friend” will need to be the one you use to create your TurboTax account and send in your tax return.
