Updated January 27th, 2016: Tax season is just getting started with most of us receiving all of our W-2 forms for our employers about now. For anyone looking to get started on their tax returns earlier this year, then Target’s one of the stores where you’ll find a pretty good deals on TurboTax software. Here’s a look at what’s on sale right now and how much you can expect to save this week – Just keep in mind that the best deals on TurboTax are often found online and not all versions are sold at your local store.
TurboTax Basic: Now on sale for $29.99 which is about the same price you’ll find at most other stores (it retails for $29.99 according to Target, but Intuit’s site shows that it’s normally $39.99). We’ve noticed that most stores don’t discount this version beyond the $29.99 price point, even Amazon, so you’re unlikely to find it anywhere else for less. Most Target stores should carry it or you can order it online and it’ll ship out to you for free.
TurboTax Deluxe (the most popular version): Now on sale for $49.99 with free $5.00 Target gift card included. So that’s effectively giving you $15.00 off the retail price of $59.99. So is this a good price? Well, we’ve seen a better price at Amazon currently on sale for $39.85 with the State return and $29.99 without. You also have the option of picking up The Deluxe Online version (that means that there is no software to install and it’s all web-based) for $24.99 now on sale too at intuit.com. The cd/download versions at Intuit are more expensive at the $49.99 list price.
TurboTax Premier: If you have investments like stocks or bonds or own rental property, then you’ll need to get the Premier version to complete your tax return. Target has it now on sale for $74.99 vs. $89.99 ($15.00 off). That’s the same price on sale at Intuit at the moment, but if you head on over to Amazon you’ll get the same version for just $54.85 (that’s 39% off). You just have to remember that the sale prices there change all the time so it’s had to say how low it’ll last for and when/if the prices will go up.
TurboTax Home & Business: If you’re a small business owner or self-employed then you’re probably already familiar with the this version of TurboTax (this is the one I use, except that we switched to the online version a few years ago). Target has it now listed for $84.99 (normally retails for $99.99). But again, Amazon seems to have the lowest price of any of Intuit’s resellers with the exact same version now available for as low as $64.99 (35% off). Just remember that it’s likely Amazon will raise their prices near the April tax deadline.
What other TurboTax deals are out there?
Probably the best place to start is on our main TurboTax page where we update the listings with our favorite deals just about everyday. If you are a member of a credit union, like Navy Federal Credit Union, Alliant Credit Union, or Suncoast, or a membership club, like AAA or AARP, then it’s likely there are also some special discounts available for you as well. You can also check with your bank or credit card company, like Bank of America, Chase, Vangaurd or Citi Bank, and these folks have also partnered with TurboTax in years past.
You can also check out the deals at both Walmart and Costco, two of the largest resellers of the software. You just have to remember that just like at Target, not all versions will be available at your local store. You’ll also find that once we get closer the the April deadline (which happens to fall on the April 18th this year) that prices go up and it’s harder to find a discount.
