Updated on November 18th, 2013: As we predicted, TurboTax for the 2013 tax year has just been released. If you use the online version, then you can log into your existing TurboTax account at Intuit.com (or create a new account if you haven’t used TurboTax before). If you typically use the traditional boxed versions of Basic, Deluxe, Premier or Home & Business, then you can already pick up a copy at one of their official resellers like Amazon or Staples. If you’re new to TurboTax, you can also try it out for free before you buy.
Updated November 3rd, 2013: Could it be that we might see TurboTax released earlier this year? Normally we see the new versions released in mid-December but we just saw the 2013/2014 TurboTax/Quicken Bundle offer posted on Amazon where it says that the offer begins on November 17th, 2013. Could this be the expected released date? We think it might possibly be!
We are once again slowly approaching that dreadful time of year where we have to pay our dues to the tax man. For those that are users of TurboTax, you can expect the new versions to be released in December 2013 in the United States and in January 2014 in Canada. You will usually see the online editions available at turbotax.intuit.com about two weeks before retail outlets receive the boxed versions.
Do we expect to see any changes in TurboTax for 2014?
Besides software updates adjusted to the changes in the tax code, we don’t expect to see any dramatic changes to any of the TurboTax versions this year. We’re expecting the same versions to still be available for tax year 2013 (Free Edition, Deluxe, Premier, Home & Business, and Military) with a possibility of slight improvements to their iPad app. As a user of TurboTax myself, I would love to see an improved update process. It seems like every time I would open the program it had new updates to install that would take 10 or more minutes to install. We would also like to see all versions include the State return (which most people are required to file) vs. being charged the extra fee on top of the Federal filing fee to order it.
