Updated January 6th, 2016: One of the most popular questions that we get here at SoftwareVoucher.com is “Can you install TurboTax on more than one computer?”. And the answer? It’s definitely a YES! The TurboTax software license agreement (also known as the EULA) states that you install TurboTax desktop 2016 versions (for the 2015 tax year) on as many personal and work computers that you own, regardless how many that may be. So if you purchased a physical disk then just pop it into each computer that you want to install it on. If you ordered the download version, then just long into your Intuit account and reinstall the software.
How many tax forms can you file on a single TurboTax license?
The IRS has mandated that each copy of TurboTax desktop software must allow you to be able to e-file up to five federal tax returns and three State returns. However you’ll be able to prepare, print and mail as many returns as you want with a single license. Just keep in mind that the license agreement specifically states that you can not use any of TurboTax’s personal tax preparation software to file tax returns for commercial purposes. The restrictions include the Free, Basic, Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business versions. If you’re a professional tax filer then TurboTax offers ProSeries or Lacerte tax prep software.
What about the online versions of TurboTax?
This is where things slightly differ (but the policy remains the same). Because the IRS limits one tax return per email address, you can only e-file one federal tax return and up to 5 State returns per login if you are using any of the TurboTax Online editions. However, you can add up to 4 separate users to your TurboTax account, which each must use a different email address and have a different Social Security number, and each will be able to file a separate Federal tax return. Similar to the desktop/download versions of TurboTax, TurboTax Online will also let you prepare, print and mail as many returns as you like.
